What Is NeoGraft?

Hair loss can also lead to a loss of confidence, affecting a person’s ability to pursue romantic relationships. If you’re looking for a hair-replacement treatment that can give you a fuller and more natural-looking head of hair, NeoGraft is your solution! NeoGraft is an FDA-approved follicular unit extraction (FUE) system. FUE is a type of hair-transplantation procedure that is performed in four steps:

Step 1

A region of the scalp with an abundance of hair follicles is found, typically the area in the back of the head. This will serve as the donor site for the procedure. The donor site is comprised of follicular units, which contain anywhere from one to four hairs each. The NeoGraft device is used to punch out and extract individual follicular units.

Step 2

The extracted follicular units are separated and organized based on their size and the number of hairs they contain. Identifying and separating follicular units with single hairs and multiple hairs will make it easier to produce natural-looking results.

Step 3

The balding area of the scalp is identified and prepared for implantation. The NeoGraft system allows for extremely precise control over the transplantation of hair. Depth and angle are carefully measured to ensure the viability of each graft in its new location.

Step 4

Each follicular unit is individually implanted into the recipient area of the scalp. The exact placement of each follicular unit will be mapped out based on the patient’s desired results. NeoGraft safely and effectively harvests your hair follicles from a donor site and transplants them to areas of need.

NeoGraft FAQ

What is NeoGraft™?

NeoGraft™ is an automated device which facilitates the harvesting of follicles during a Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and implantation hair transplant procedure, dramatically improving the accuracy and speed over previously used manual extraction instruments.

What is an “FUE” hair transplant?

“F.U.E.” or “Follicular-Unit Extraction” is an advanced, “minimally-invasive” hair transplant method which allows for the harvesting of individual follicles from the back of the head (donor area) without a scalpel or stitches, and therefore leaves no linear scar.

What are the main benefits of FUE over the traditional “Strip Method” or linear harvesting?

It is well-accepted that FUE transplants can heal faster and more comfortably than linear-harvest techniques which the physician uses a scalpel and removes a strip of scalp requiring stitches. With the minimally invasive technique FUE, the patient can return to work in a couple of days and once healing is complete, the patient has the option of wearing a very short haircut without the worry of a tell-tale linear scar. Without the need for stitches, downtime is shorter with fewer activity restrictions post-operatively.

What are some benefits of NeoGraft™ over manual FUE techniques?

The highly ergonomic mechanical NeoGraft™ device works as a natural extension of the surgeons’ hand, allowing for faster and more accurate harvesting of hair follicles. NeoGraft™ patients now reach their goal with less time in the procedure room or fewer FUE procedures altogether.

Who is a good candidate for FUE using NeoGraft™?

Patients who would like the option of wearing a very short haircut in the back or sides of their scalp, or those who want the least amount of activity restriction (e.g. athletes) after their hair transplant procedure, may be good candidates for FUE with NeoGraft™. FUE can also be used for ‘scar camouflage’ procedures for patients who have had prior “Strip” procedures, as well as for body hair transplants.

What are the major cost differences between FUE and linear-harvest hair transplant procedures?

The fee structure for FUE hair transplant procedures reflects the more detailed and intricate nature of those procedures compared to those performed with a linear harvest strip method but in most cases is very similar in pricing.

Are the final transplanted ‘results’ any different with FUE/NeoGraft™ than those achieved with linear harvesting?

The results are similar. FUE procedures, by default, yield grafts that contain mainly one, two, three, or four follicles called “follicular units.” Strips or linear harvests, are removed from the back of the scalp and are then microscopically dissected by a team into grafts of one, two or three follicles, would also yield similar ‘follicular-unit’ grafts.

Provided that in each case the grafts are implanted with care, artistry, and precision into the recipient area, the final transplanted results with FUE would be similar, if not identical, to those accomplished with a linear harvest.

The difference is not in the area of hair growth, but how the donor area is harvested either by a strip of scalp or by small individual graft extractions. Using the FUE Technique leaves no linear scar.

Is FUE/NeoGraft™ suitable for both men and women?

Yes. Because FUE/NeoGraft™ is a minimally-invasive procedure, it is a viable option for both men and women looking to restore their own living and growing hair with transplantation.

Do I have to get a total ‘buzz cut’ to have an FUE/NeoGraft procedure?

No, if your hair is long enough, harvesting using the FUE/NeoGraft can be done by shaving small areas which can be covered by your other, existing hair.

Am I a good candidate for a procedure using FUE/NeoGraft?

The best way to determine whether you are a candidate for hair transplant using FUE/NeoGraft is a one-on-one consultation with your doctor.

What causes hair loss?

In men, most hair loss can be attributed to something called male pattern baldness where hair follicles on the top and forehead of the scalp are weak to the hormone dihydrotestosterone, (DHT).

Over time, DHT causes miniaturization and then death of hair follicles that are susceptible to DHT. In women it can be tougher to pinpoint while hair loss in women can also be genetic it is common to see hormonal changes and thyroid issues as being a culprit as well.

Does NeoGraft™ work?

The best hair restoration is performed by experienced doctors and their technicians, hair loss restoration works extremely well and in almost all cases it is virtually undetectable.

Are there hair loss restoration treatments that don’t require surgery?

While there are certain medicines and treatments that can often slow or even halt the loss of hair it will not, however, regrow hair. That is why the best combination is prevention in conjunction with a hair transplant procedure is the only effective way to reverse hair loss.

What are the best options for preventing future hair loss?

There are four FDA approved options for preventing future hair loss. Finasteride, Minoxidil, Laser therapy devices and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). All of these options complement each other so you can use one up to all four. They each attack hair loss in a different way.

I have already lost some hair even after NeoGraft™will I lose those hairs over time too?

Because the hair is removed from the back of the head it is not subject to the effects of DHT, the substance that causes male pattern baldness. No matter where the hairs are transplanted, their resistance to DHT means that they are likely to survive and grow for the life of the patient.

After a NeoGraft™procedure, how long does it take for the hair to grow?

About half the hair begins to exit the scalp at approximately three months. The hair originally comes out as thin and fine baby hairs over the next six months about 40% of the hair is visible. And at 12 months 75% of the hair is visible. 15 months to 18 months is needed for the final results of the procedure can be seen.

Will I be awake during a hair loss restoration procedure?

Patients are completely awake and alert during hair surgery. The procedure involves the use of a mild local anesthetic, which allows the patient to watch television or sleep.

Will I be able to drive myself home after a NeoGraft™treatment?

Yes, because only local anesthesia is used, You are able to safely drive yourself to and from the office that day.

Is the NeoGraft™ procedure painful?

A topical anesthetic assures that the hair restoration procedure is virtually pain free. For the first 2-3 days, most patients find that they only need to take Tylenol if any discomfort occurs.

How long is the NeoGraft™procedure?

A hair transplant takes can vary in times usually it is four to eight hours depending on the size of the session. It typically starts by 8:00 AM and you will be out in the afternoon that same day.

Is financing available for NeoGraft™?

Yes, the Neograft procedure can be paid with cash, bank check, credit card, or interest-free financing plans.

Can I wear a hairpiece after NeoGraft™?

Yes, but not for the first four days.

Do I have to transplant hair over the entire part of the scalp that has missing hair?

Each patient is unique but typically there is a range given in a consultation from the minimum to the maximum amount of hair that will improve the patient’s appearance. Some patients will fill in the front to start and then fill in the remaining areas that are missing hair with later procedures while others want to do as much as they can.

Are there any complications or risks with the NeoGraft™treatment?

Infection occurrences after a hair transplant procedure are very rare. In cases where infection does occur, it generally is easily treatable with antibiotics, which can be prescribed by the physician.

What will my scalp look like immediately after treatment?

You will have redness and scabs that last about 7-10 days. You are able to wear a baseball cap to cover the redness after 10 days. It will look like nothing occurred once the redness and scabs subside.

How much will it cost?

There are obvious variants in this question. The cost is determined by the number of grafts that are needed this varies based on individual needs. Everyone has different needs and specific patterns. The best way to determine cost is to come in for a consultation in order to determine the exact number of grafts needed to reach your goals.

Will everyone know?

You’ll need a minimum of 7-10 days out of the loop during this time you can wear a hat, due to the healing process, as the surgical area will be red and a little obvious. The area will be shaved down to provide an ideal surgical environment and to protect existing hairs. After the procedure, the hair grows in very slowly but as time passes, you’ll probably have people asking if you’ve lost weight; they’ll notice ‘something’ but won’t be able to pinpoint the physical change in you, especially if you’ve only had minimal work done. No need to tell anyone if you don’t want to. Lots of people get away with no one figuring it out.

How noticeable will the scarring be?

Follicular unit grafting requires tiny incisions to the recipient area and any resultant scarring is generally invisible to the untrained eye.

Will the results be permanent?

The hair follicles that are transplanted are genetically-resistant against baldness so they will, in theory, continue to grow over your lifetime. However, if you do not use prevention for your existing hair you’ll still notice hair loss on different areas of your head, and may choose to explore the option of another transplant procedure in the future.

When will I need the next hair transplant?

This really depends on you. A useful approach is to build a solid foundation ahead of surgery by establishing your hair loss through medical treatment, with a drug such as finasteride. This will give you a sense of your hair’s stability, and prevent further loss. Hair loss is progressive, so keep one eye on the long term when considered a transplant.

What can’t I do after treatment?

The main rules are no heavy lifting or no swimming for 7 days. We give you a medicated shampoo to gently wash your hair. During the first seven days, no scrubbing as the grafts take 5-7 days in order to obtain their permanent blood supply.

Will I lose more hair because of the surgery in the area?

When work is done in areas where there is existing hair, you could possibly lose some of those hairs. It’s called ‘shock loss’ and happens especially if the hair is weak and miniaturizing but that hair does return in a couple of months.
