These small aesthetic flaws can be incredibly hard to avoid. Shallow wrinkles and fine lines like crow’s feet can form due to unavoidable repetitive muscle use and as the natural result of the aging process.

At Sperling Dermatology in Florham Park, New Jersey, we know that countless people are searching for an effective treatment for reducing their wrinkles. One of our goals is to provide our patients with a personalized solution to their aesthetic issues. We have been able to help numerous patients restore the youthful beauty of their skin using Botox.

What Is Botox?

There is a good chance you’ve heard of Botox at some point in your life, which means you probably already know that people use it to get rid of their wrinkles. However, there are some misconceptions about how Botox works and what it does.

First things first: Botox is not like what you see on TV shows where the person has a “frozen” face that looks doll-like. Botox was designed to deliver results that look natural when the injections are performed by someone who is qualified and experienced. The key to the results that Botox provides lies in its formula.

Botox contains a special protein known as botulinum toxin. This protein is capable of causing temporary paralysis. Strained and contracted facial muscles are the main source of fine wrinkles. In order to restore the smooth surface of the skin that lies on top of these muscles, Botox is injected into the muscles. The Botox allows the muscles to relax, reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

The Injection Process

One of the greatest things about Botox is the simplicity of the treatment. Most Botox treatments only take a short time to complete. Once the areas where the injections will be made have been carefully cleaned, the Botox can be injected into the area. The injections themselves produce only minimal discomfort.

Botox is incredibly safe to use around some of the most sensitive areas of the face. You can use Botox to address wrinkles and lines in a number of areas, including:

  • Corners of the eyes
  • Forehead
  • Between the brows
  • Chin
  • Edges of the lips
  • Neck

After Your Botox Treatment

There is no recovery period required after your Botox injections. You will be able to drive yourself to and from your appointment. There may be some redness and a feeling of tenderness around the injection sites, but these issues should dissipate quickly. You can return to work the same day as your treatment, though you may wish to relax for a bit after your injections.

It will take around 7-10 days to see the full results of your Botox injections. You can expect your results to last for around three to four months. After this time, you can choose to undergo another round of injections to make your results last longer.

If the wrinkles and lines on your face are taking a toll on your self-esteem, contact Sperling Dermatology in Florham Park, New Jersey, today to schedule a consultation. We can provide you with the amazing care and results you need.
